What to Wear?

After booking your session, please choose your clothing carefully. Clothing should be simple. You should avoid logos, busy patterns and graphics as these do not photograph well and will draw attention away from the subject. The main focus of the portrait should be the person being photographed and not what they are wearing. In the winter, layered clothing such as collared shirts and sweaters are excellent to photograph. In the summer, khakis and polo shirts for boys and a simple dress for girls are beautiful in portraits. And of course, little bare feet are always a joy to photograph! Hats are encouraged for toddlers, as are any special blankets or toys. When families are photographed, colors that are monochromatic work best. For example, light blue to dark blue work well, as would various shades of green or gray. Also, pack some layers such as sweaters, cardigans or light jackets that can be added in during our session, thereby giving you a variety of choices. Please make sure all clothes fit well. Oversized clothing can look frumpy and unflattering in portraits. If there is more than one child, outfits can be similar, but it’s not necessary to have them match. One final note, newborns and babies work best in their own skin.

Some Fun Suggestions For Clothing:

Girls aged 6 months – 10 years: Pearls, Hats, Necklaces, Feather Boa, Tutus, Fairy Wings & Wands, Ballet Slippers, etc…..

Boys aged 6 months – 10 years: Hats, Overalls, Fishing Pole, etc…I look forward to being your family photographer.

Family Sessions:

Make sure everyone is fed and well rested. Children can sense stressful energy and will react negatively to it. If a child is not feeling well, please reschedule. If the plan is to meet at a location other than your home, please bring snacks, a drink, outfit change and some wet wipes!

Some places to think about may be a local park or farm, the beach, vintage buildings and unique architecture, or a place that has special meaning to you. Simple things like a bench, an old fence, or even an old doorway can make for a beautiful photograph. Think about what you want out of your photographs so we can discuss the best location for you. Sessions are scheduled with enough time to really focus on your child or children and to come away with a wonderful variety perfect for keepsake albums, printed coffee table books, and wall collections. All digital images are shot in color, and then presented in a mix of color and black and white.

On the day of your session, you will be required to sign a modeling release allowing me to photograph and retain all copyrights of the resulting images
